Queen of Hell: Initium is a bold and subversive horror-fantasy adventure comic from writer Rafer Roberts (Rick and Morty, Grumble) and artist Mike Ratera (Conan the Conqueror, Stalag-X) with companion music by metal band A Sound of Thunder.
92 full-color pages are accompanied by songs that add detail and perspective to the story. The music is produced by RIAA platinum-awarded producer Kevin '131' Gutierrez (OAR, Shinedown, Johnny Cash) and features guest appearances by Fabio Lione (Rhapsody of Fire, Angra) and Mats Levén (Candlemass, Yngwie Malmsteen).
Campaign rewards include low-print run comics, holofoil and sketch variants, art prints, cassettes, CDs, vinyl records, and the world's first blank sketch variant record jacket.
A Sound of Thunder
A Sound of Thunder has been telling stories in words, music and images since 2010. The Washington, DC-based heavy metal band is best known for its ground-breaking and record-smashing Kickstarter success allowing them to create multiple charting albums and singles, animation, and comics.
The first elements of the Queen of Hell story appeared with vocalist Nina Osegueda's lyrics to the song "Queen of Hell" recorded in 2012 for the band's Time's Arrow album.
Nina and guitarist Josh Schwartz worked on the character's backstory and supporting cast, leading in 2014 to the song "Udoroth" about the story's primary villain.
"Udoroth" featured an eye-popping animated music video which further expanded on the conflict between the Queen of Hell and Udoroth.
In 2015 the band released its first major comic book collaboration with Tales from the Deadside, an officially licensed concept based on Valiant Entertainment's Shadowman. The band worked closely with Valiant editorial to create an in-continuity sonic encapsulation of the entire Shadowman series from writers Justin Jordan and Peter Milligan.
In 2018 A Sound of Thunder published its first comic with the It Was Metal graphic anthology. A companion to the album bearing the same name, the anthology featured a short story based on each song from the album. Edited by the band, the book features comics industry elite such as Barry Kitson, Bob Hall, Lovern Kindzierski, Roberto de la Torre, Ben Templesmith, Mike Ratera, Rafer Roberts, Brian Reber, and more.
Now after many years of work the band is excited to unleash Queen of Hell: Initium on comics and music audiences worldwide.
